Former Newark Wood Shop Teacher Dies

Donald Melvin Waymire taught wood shop at Silva Middle School.

NEWARK, CA — Donald Melvin Waymire, a wood shop teacher at M.D. Silva Middle School in Newark for more than a decade, has died. He was 93.

Waymire started his teaching career in Newark after graduating from Chico State. While teaching here he met and married Anne, in 1957. Together they raised four daughters.

In 1972 the family moved to Truckee where he taught wood shop at Tahoe Truckee High School. He then established the wood shop program at North Tahoe High School where he eventually retired.

He was an avid skier until the age of 80 and hunted until he was 90.

Waymire is survived by his wife Anne; daughters Grace Waymire, Mary Yonker (Craig), Kathy Waymire , and Donna Lawton (Dan); 6 grandchildren, 3 great grand children and his sister Arlene Cardiff.
