Newark Star Student Excels In Academics, Art, Karate
Her high school had no art program — so she started a STEAM art club with 80 members and raised over $1,000 to fund the club.

NEWARK, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

How do you know the star local student?
Julila has been my kid’s friend since they were both 2 years old.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Julila excels in academics, art, karate, as well as volunteering. She is on principal’s honor roll in her school, which had no art program - so she started a STEAM art club with 80 members and fund raised over $1000. She has herself volunteered 120 hours of community service. She Is a black belt in Karate and now teaches Karate workshops.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Her smile tells us that she balances a lot of things in her life while being courteous, kind and courageous - she is a role model for all teens!
