2 Hurt As SUV Runs Red Light, Crashes Into UC Irvine Bus: Police
The wreck was Wednesday night in Newport Beach, authorities said.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A University of California Irvine bus was involved in a crash with an SUV in Newport Beach and two people were hospitalized Thursday morning with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred around 10 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Bristol Street and Irvine Avenue, according to Newport Beach Police.
"The (SUV) was only occupied by the driver and it appeared to have run a red light," Sgt. Ryan Peters told the Orange County Register.

The SUV driver and a student in the bus were taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, Peters said.
NBC4 reported one of the four people were aboard the bus was a UCI professor who was briefly trapped in the wreckage before being freed. No other injuries were reported.

The intersection of Bristol Street and Irvine Avenue was closed until midnight while police investigated the cause of the crash.
