Applications Now Open For Newport Beach's Scholarship Program

The Ackerman Scholarship Program is open to students living in Newport Beach or the child of a city employee.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The city announced Monday it was now accepting applications for its Ackerman Scholarship Program for 2022.

Students have until May 2 at 5 p.m. to submit their application for the program, which awards seven $700 scholarships.

To qualify for the scholarship program, a student must be a resident of Newport Beach or be the child of a "regular, full-time Newport Beach city employee," city officials said. Students must also be graduating from a high school in 2022 and will attend a two-year community college or a four-year college or university.

An eligible student must also have maintained a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better, Newport Beach officials said.

Newport Beach officials said they will select students based on their "financial need, scholastic standing, school or community leadership, school and/or extracurricular activities and career and life plans."
