Bodycam Footage Shows Fatal Shooting Of Media Scion And Brother Of OC 'Housewife'
Authorities released a video Wednesday, showing the moments leading up to a Newport Beach police officer's fatal shooting of a motorcyclist.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A video released by the Newport Beach Police Department Wednesday shows a life-and-death struggle between an officer and a DUI suspect that ended in the suspect's shooting death in April.
The video includes the officer's bodycam footage from the fateful traffic stop in April.
The video appears to show motorcyclist Geoffrey Stirling, of Laguna Niguel, run a red light at about 9:15 p.m. on April 17 on westbound Pacific Coast Highway near Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

The officer pulled over the 45-year-old, who was the son of Canadian media tycoon Scott Stirling, the Newfoundland Broadcasting Company CEO and the brother of "Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member Lydia McLaughlin.
According to police, Stirling became uncooperative, removed a Taser from an officer's belt, and repeatedly tried to use it against the officer.

In the video, which was posted on the Newport Beach Police Department's YouTube channel, the officer is heard telling Stirling to take a seat.
Stirling replies, "I don't care what you're telling me to do."
The officer continues to ask Stirling to sit down, and Stirling continues to refuse.
"Just sit down, dude, you ran a red light, and you're pissing yourself." the officer can be heard saying.
"No. I don't wanna sit down over there." Stirling replied in the video.
When the officer turns partially away from Stirling to talk to into his radio, the video shows Stirling start to move toward the officer. The movement was spotted by the officer, who responds by lunging at Stirling.
The pair tussle into the lanes of traffic and separate as Stirling points his hands at the officer, who yells, "Drop it," and then opens fire on Stirling.
"At one point, Mr. Stirling placed the Taser against the back of the officer's head," Newport Beach PD Sgt. Steve Oberon said in the video. "The officer was able to break free, and as Mr. Stirling pointed the Taser at him, an officer-involved shooting occurred."
The officer shot several rounds at Stirling, killing him. He was taken to Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the shooting.
The video included footage from body-worn camera images and vehicle dash camera footage. I can be seen on the NBPD's YouTube channel.
"The Newport Beach Police Department remains committed to transparency and accountability in all of its operations. The release of this video is part of our ongoing efforts to keep the community informed and engaged," the department said in a statement.
Stirling's sister, the former "Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member, shared her grief with People magazine.
"My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn," McLaughlin said in a statement to People.
McLaughlin appeared in both Season 8 and Season 12 of the hit reality TV show on Bravo, according to the TV personality's website.
She posted an emotional tribute to her brother via Instagram on Monday, May 5.
"Yesterday, we laid my brother to rest. Just six months ago, we stood in this same place, grieving the loss of my mom," the reality star captioned the Monday, May 5 post.
"My heart is broken, and the shock still hasn’t settled. But even in the sorrow, I cling to what I know is true: God is good. He is in control. I am not."
"My brother is now with my mom, and I hold onto the promise that one day, we’ll all be reunited. Until then, I will miss them every single day," she said.
The day of his death wasn't Stirling's firs run-in with the law.
Stirling was charged March 25 with arson of property at Buck Shepard Associates Inc., a property management company in Laguna Niguel, according to court records. He was accused of committing the arson on March 21 and was due to be arraigned, according to court records.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting was urged to contact the NBPD spokesman Sgt. Steven Oberon at 949-644-3652 or soberon@nbpd.org.
