Costa Mesa High Cheer Team Places First At CIF State Championship
Costa Mesa High's cheer team also won the CIF Southern Section Division 4AA championships every year since cheerleading became sanctioned.

COSTA MESA, CA — Members of Costa Mesa High School's cheerleading took first place at the California Interscholastic Federation's inaugural Cheerleading Championship in February.
The team took first place in the non-tumbling coed large category, according to results shared by CIF.
Costa Mesa's 23-member cheer team has previously won the last three Southern Section Division 4AA championships from CIF since cheerleading became a sanctioned sport in 2018, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District said in a statement.

Kori Johnson, the team's coach, said she was overjoyed to see her student-athletes "skill, dedication and commitment recognized and rewarded with a first-place win" at the CIF competition.
"Winning CIF for the third consecutive year and then going on to win the first CIF State cheer competition is a tremendous accomplishment," Johnson said.
