Hangover 3: Newport Beach, You’re a Star!

A portion of the upcoming Hangover 3 is set in Newport Beach, and, let's just say, it's not a role anyone is going to forget easily.

The scene is grisly and tragic. A giraffe riding in the back of a trailer on the 73 Freeway gets clotheslined by the Jamboree Road overpass. Cars pile up, and, of course, an 18-wheeler transporting giant pipes jackknifes. It’s pandemonium. It’s the Newport Beach cameo in Hangover 3.

The trailer for the raunchy R-rated flick just came out, and it shows just what our sacrifice bought when we endured a series of 73 Freeway closures between the 55 and the 405 for the filming last fall.

The movie, staring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Heather Graham, John Goodman and Ken Jeong reportedly centers on the misadventure of a group of friends who set out to rescue one of their own from a mental hospital.

Not everyone was happy to lend the roadway to the film crew.

In October, Costa Mesa Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer criticized Caltrans for allowing the freeway closure to allow the filming.

"I just think it's outrageous,'' Righeimer said at the time. "They're going to disrupt traffic on the 73 so that they can film a movie, which the citizens of Costa Mesa get nothing out of.”

Watch the trailer to the right, and tell us what you think: Was our sacrifice for the sake of art worth it?
