Heat Wave Coming To SoCal As Newport Beach Avoids The Brunt Of It

Temperatures are expected to reach the high 80s until Sunday in parts of Orange County, with warming trends occurring in the inland areas.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A sweltering heat wave is headed to Orange County and all across the southwestern United States this weekend.

The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Watch through Sunday to many desert communities, where some temperatures are expected to climb as high as 117 degrees Saturday.

The heat wave is on track to be the hottest of the season, National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Boldt told the Los Angeles Times.

In inland Orange County, temperatures will increase to 85 on Friday and 87 on Saturday, according to AccuWeather. Sunday temperatures are expected to cool down to 83.

Newport Beach will avoid the brunt of the heat wave.

Temperatures will rise to 73 degrees on Friday, reaching 74 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, according to AccuWeather. Temperatures will drop slightly to 72 Monday and remain in the 70s for the rest of the week. Winds anywhere from 5-15 mph are expected during this period.

Temperatures in the inland Los Angeles area will be significantly warmer, climbing to 96 degrees through Sunday. Coastal areas can expect temperatures in the upper 70s, with a high of 81 predicted for Saturday.

Residents should drink plenty of water, avoid prolonged periods outdoors and not leave children or pets in cars unattended.
