Homicide Suspect Shot, Killed After Pursuit In South OC
A homicide suspect wanted for shooting a woman to death for her car in San Diego was shot and killed by police in Orange County.
LAGUNA HILLS, CA — A homicide suspect wanted for shooting a woman to death for her car in San Diego was shot and killed by police in Orange County Saturday morning, authorities said.
The shooting resulted in full road closures on El Toro Road from Avenida Carlota to Paseo de Valencia in Laguna Hills early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, Newport Beach and Irvine police officers were in pursuit of the vehicle, which was wanted in a Carlsbad homicide.

The chain of events began at 9:53 p.m. Friday, when Carlsbad police officers responded to a report of gunfire in an apartment complex parking lot in the 2300 block of Rising Glen Way, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
Responding officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. She was pronounced dead, and her identity was not released.

The woman's vehicle was taken during the shooting, police said.'
Newport Beach police spotted the vehicle through License Plate Reader technology and a pursuit ensued, according to Carlsbad police. During the pursuit, the suspect exited Interstate 5 at El Toro Road, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.
"The suspect exited his vehicle near El Toro Road and (Avenida) Carlota and fired a gun at officers," the sheriff's department said. "Officers from the Newport Beach Police Department and an officer from the Irvine Police returned fire. The suspect was struck. No officers were injured."
Paramedics rushed the suspect to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office was overseeing the investigation into the shootout, according to Carlsbad police.
