A man was arrested by Newport Beach police Friday for allegedly kidnapping a woman after having dinner with her, and holding her against her will at gunpoint, officials reported.
Bradley John King, 42, of Rhode Island kidnapped a woman in the area of 28th Street and Balboa Boulevard after the two had dinner and drinks on Thursday and later got into an argument, police said.
"The argument escalated and at approximately 7:15 p.m., King forced the woman into his vehicle," Jennifer Manzella, police spokeswoman, said in a released statement. "When the victim attempted to exit the vehicle, King forcibly detained her and pointed a firearm at her head."
King allegedly drove the woman to Anaheim, where she was able to escape and call police, authorities reported. Anaheim and Newport Beach police began searching for King, who was located in the early morning hours of Friday during a vehicle stop.
King was booked into the Newport Beach Jail and charged with kidnapping. He is currently being held without bail.
Manzella said additional charges of assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a loaded gun will also be requested against King.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Detective Garrett Fitzgerald at 949-644-3797 or the Newport Beach Police Department’s Hotline at 1-800-550-NBPD. Messages can be left anonymously.
