Man Peels Off From Traffic Stop In Newport Beach; Faces Arrest, Police Say
When the driver of a black Mercedes tried to use high speeds to get away from Newport Beach police making a traffic stop, police responded.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A Costa Mesa man was arrested for evading a traffic stop and possession of drugs this week in Newport Beach, authorities said.
The arrest was reported just after 10 a.m. when a black Mercedes E350 with no front plate made a sudden high-speed attempt to evade a traffic stop in Newport Beach, police said.
According to police, the driver "slammed into a driveway" and tried to flee police, but was quickly detained.

A search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine, and a further investigation found that the driver was behind the wheel with a suspended license and an outstanding warrant.
The suspect was identified as Matthew Stanwick, of Costa Mesa.
