Missing Elderly Woman Killed By DUI Driver In Huntington Beach, Police Say

An 85-year-old woman who was reported missing in Orange County was struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver last weekend, police said.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — An 85-year-old woman was struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver in Huntington Beach Saturday evening, the Huntington Beach Police Department reported.

Caryl Margulies was last seen Saturday, July 12 in the the area of Reef Lane and Saline Drive. Caryl suffered from dementia and had previously been reported missing several times, police said.

The crash happened at around 6 p.m. that day, when authorities responded to a traffic incident involving a white Toyota RAV4 and a pedestrian near Brookhurst Street and Crailet Drive, authorities said.

The pedestrian, later identified to be Margulies, was found unconscious in the roadway and taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A 62-year-old man — identified only as a Costa Mesa resident — remained on scene and arrested on suspicion of DUI.
