Newport Beach Residents To Receive New Green-Lid Waste Containers
The new containers will be for yard waste, food scraps and other biodegradable matter, Newport Beach officials said.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Green-lidded organic waste bins will roll out across Newport Beach this week as part of the city's effort to align with a California law governing how biodegradable waste is disposed of in the state.
The city's waste disposal contractor, CR&R Environmental Services, will distribute the new bins starting now until March 31. Biodegradable waste includes yard clippings and food scraps.
The new bins are in addition to the black-lidded containers for solid waste and blue-lidded containers for recyclables.

Californians are now required to separate organic waste from regular trash under Senate Bill 1383, which took effect this year. The mandate aims to reduce California's organic waste in three years by 75 percent, city officials said.
