Resident Comes Face-to-Face With Garage Burglar

The garage burglary took place at a home on Hillcrest Lane.

A burglar encountered a resident while trying to steal items from a Newport Beach garage last week, police reported.

The burglary was reported on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 4:45 a.m. at a home on Hillcrest Lane. According to police, the suspect went into the garage through an unlocked side pedestrian door, activating a door sensor. The suspect then went into an unlocked car parked in the garage, and took a wallet from a purse.

The resident walked into the garage, and saw the suspect who then ran out of the garage with money stolen from the wallet, police reported.

The suspect was described as being 50-60 years old, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with grey hair. The suspect was wearing a dark handkerchief over his mouth and a dark flannel shirt.
