Tarballs Found Across Newport Beach Coastline: Report

The blobs of tar were first spotted in Seal Beach before spreading to the Newport Beach coastline, the Orange County Register reported.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Authorities in Seal Beach and Newport Beach are investigating the source of tarballs that have begun washing ashore within the last week, the Orange County Register reported.

The balls of tar are likely from natural oil seepage in the ocean and not connected to any recent oil spills, the paper reported.

The tar first appeared on the shores of Seal Beach around a week ago, the Register reported.
