TeWinkle Middle School Grapples With Equity At Meeting: Report
A community meeting about electives at the Costa Mesa middle school turned into a discussion on campus equity, The Daily Pilot reported.

COSTA MESA, CA — A community meeting held by the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Tuesday on electives at TeWinkle Middle School took a turn when the discussion changed gears to issues of campus equity, according to a report from The Daily Pilot.
A parent during the meeting mentioned 74.6 percent of students at TeWinkle come from socioeconomically disadvantaged families, while only 10.8 percent of students at Corona del Mar Middle School, which is part of Newport-Mesa, are considered as such, the Pilot reported.
Students at Corona del Mar have the option to pick from 21 elective classes, while TeWinkle offers its students 13 electives.

The parent said they want the children at TeWinkle to "have the same access to the Newport stuff," according to the Pilot.
