Alleged Hot Spot Cafe Shooter Arraigned

Nerses Arthur Galstyan's trial is set to start April 8.

The alleged Hot Spot Cafe shooter entered a plea of "not guilty" today at his arraignment at the Van Nuys Courthouse.

Nerses Arthur Galstyan will now stand trial for quadruple homicide.

His defense attorney, Andrew Flier, told the judge that he would in all likelihood not be representing Galstyan at his trial, citing a lack of funds on the part of the defendant as the reason. Alternative counsel was being sought.

However, Flier did say that he had received videotape evidence from Deputy District Attorney Habib Balian, and that he would ask for this to be reviewed by an expert on the defendant's behalf. The tape was taken from surveillance cameras outside of the Hot Spot Cafe on the day of the shootings.

, when a group of friends and family members reportedly gathered at the Hot Spot Cafe on Riverside Drive in Valley Village after a memorial service.

It left four men dead: Hayk Yegnanyan, 25; Vardan Tofalyan, 31; Sarkis Karadjian, 26: and Harut Baburyan, 28, the district attorney's office reported. Galstyan was later arrested near Seattle, WA, and charged with four counts of murder in the first degree, said the DA's office in a statement.

Witnesses at the preliminary hearing said Galstyan suddenly opened fire, and police allege it was due to a personal dispute. Galystan's next court appearance will be his pre-trial hearing on April 8 at 8:30 a.m. Because the trial was estimated by both Balian and Flier to last somewhere in the region of four weeks, it is likely that the case will move to the courthouse in downtown L.A.

After Galystan left the courtroom, Balian called a witness who had not shown up for the preliminary hearing. David Agazazryan stood and spoke to the judge from the back of the courtroom. He wore sunglasses, and when he took them off, he appeared to be blind in his right eye.

, witness Nshan Nordshkharyan claimed that his friend David had sustained injuries to his eye when the shooter opened fire. Agazazryan is set to be called as a witness when the case comes to trial.

Nordshkharyan claimed that Galystan was the killer, as did another witness at the preliminary hearing, Sarkis Terzyan.
