Dresser of the Stars Western Costume Turns 100

From the silent era to Mad Men, North Hollywood-based Western Costume Co. has sewn garments for the stars for the past 100 years.

In honor of its century of dressing legends for classic films like Gone With the Wind as well designing the ruby slippers for The Wizard of Oz, the business earned a proclamation from LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky last week.

Western Costume was born in Los Angeles from a partnership on June 30, 1912 between L.L. Burns and Harry Revier.

In 1989, the wardrobe manufacturer moved to a 120,000-square-foot warehouse at 11041 Vanowen St., and since been overseen by president Eddie Marks.

Today, Western Costume can bring custom designs to life or rent out clothing from just about every time period imaginable.
