Fire Destroys Lamplighter Restaurant; 10 Blazes Break Out Nearby

A massive blaze caused a North Hollywood restaurant to collapse and authorities detained two men in connection with the fires.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA —A fire — one of 10 reported within an hour in a North Hollywood neighborhood — tore through a vacant restaurant Wednesday morning. Two people were detained in connection with the blazes.

The fire was reported in the 6200 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard just after 6:30 a.m.., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Crews spent more than two hours battling the blaze, adopting a defensive apporoach as the building partially collpses in flames.

"The building sustained heavy damage during an extended period of fire that weakened the structural integrity, causing a substantial collapse," said Nicholas Prange. "Approximately eight other small fires in the same area (within the span of approximately an hour) are being investigated alongside this one by LAFD Arson Investigators, however there is currently no evidence connecting these fires. "

More than 100 LAFD firefighters battled the blaze for two hours and five minutes, he said.

No injuries were reported.

KTLA's Sky5 captured a video of a man being taken into police custody at Martha St. and Tujunga Ave in near the site of the some of the fires.

The destroyed building housed the former Lamplighter Family Restaurant.
