Is Chez Nous in Toluca Lake Closed for Remodeling or Closed for Good?

The longtime bistro suddenly shut its doors in early June.

Yesterday I received the following tip from a reader about :

Craig- What's the scoop on NH's Chez Nous restaurant. I've heard they're closed for good. Inquiring minds want to know.

I went by this morning and sure enough, the longtime Toluca Lake bistro, which has been serving French fare to the neighborhood for 30 years, is closed. All the windows have been papered and posted with signs "Closed For Remodeling."

However, there are several things that indicate the restaurant may be closed for good, including that its phone number has been disconnected, its website is no longer working and there was no remodeling being done on the building Wednesday morning. Several postings on the restaurant's Facebook page by customers indicate it has closed for good. One posting from Ann Louise Christensen, who played piano at Chez Nous on Saturday nights, posted: Sorry to say Chez Nous has closed their doors so I won't be there on Saturday nights. 30 years in business. We will miss you!

I spoke to Christensen on the phone and she told me she wasn't sure if Chez Nous was in fact closed for good. Two brothers, Bud and Chris Petrosian, own the restaurant and she said one brother told her they were only closed for remodeling while the other brother said they were closed for good. (Efforts to locate the brothers for comment have been unsuccessful.)

Chez Nous opened as a bakery in 1982 and eventually grew into a full restaurant. Our Tolucan Talk columnist Shaena Engle last August and had this to say: Filled with French flaky creations, it’s hard to choose from the vast selection of pastries, muffins and breads. The buttery croissants are outstanding and worth picking up a few extra to take home.

If the restaurant has in fact closed for good it will surely be missed after 30 years on Riverside Drive.
