House of Representatives

30th District - Popular and longtime Democratic incumbents Howard Berman and Brad Sherman will face off in the newly-formed 30th Congressional District, which includes a small part of North Hollywood, part of Valley Village, Toluca Lake and the other Tolucan neighborhoods, Universal City, Studio City and other neighborhoods west of North Hollywood.
Polls strongly show that they will finish No. 1 and No. 2 in this race, which will only setup another election in November thanks to the state's "top two" primary system approved by California voters in 2010 which ruled that only the top two vote-getters will advance to a Nov. 6 runoff, regardless of political party.

29th District - In the 29th District, which includes the NoHo Arts District, part of North Hollywood, part of Valley Village, Valley Glen and other parts of the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas is considered the frontrunner in his bid to become the first Latino to represent the San Fernando Valley in Congress. State Assembly
The State Assembly races are also subject to the "top two" primary system.
Assembly District 46 - There are six candidates in this race, which is a new district that represents Studio City, the Tolucans, Valley Village, Valley Glen, part of North Hollywood and other neighborhoods. Read more about the candidates here:
Assembly District 39 - This district covers most of North Hollywood and stretches as far north As Sylmar and the Angeles National Forest. Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon has been in a bitter, nagative battle with candidate Raul Bocanegra, who was once his aide. Alarcon is also facing felony voter fraud charges:

Ballot Measures
Proposition 28 - Proposition 28 will be on Tuesday's ballot and would alter term limits for some of California's elected officials. Prop. 28 would limit lawmakers to 12 years in the Legislature but allow all of those years to be served in one house—be it the Assembly or the Senate. Read more at Beverly Hills Patch:
Proposition 29 - This would add an additional $1 tax to each pack of cigarettes sold in California, bringing the total per-pack tax to $1.87. The $1 increase is estimated to generate more than $700 million annually, with most of the revenue going toward cancer research. Senate
