Police believe a man was kidnapped at gunpoint in broad daylight and forced into an SUV at the intersection of Magnolia Boulevard and Lankershim Boulevard in the heart of the NoHo Arts District Wednesday afternoon.

After being robbed, the victim reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle and was then possibly shot at by one of his kidnappers, according to Sgt. Mike Kammert of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.

One of the suspects was described over the police scanner as a black man with a Jamaican accent, 28-30 years old, thin and with a "protruding chin." The second suspect was described as a black woman with a Jamaican accent, 28-30 years old, with "unusual shaped hair." They were described as driving a silver SUV that was possibly a Kia Sportage.

Sgt. Kammert relayed the following information to North Hollywood-Toluca Lake Patch:

The victim told police he was walking north on Lankershim on the east side of the street near Magnolia – one of North Hollywood’s busiest intersections – at 4 p.m. when a silver SUV pulled up and a black male got out, pointed a revolver at him and forced him into the back seat. Once inside, the victim said he saw the female driving and the male with the gun got into the passenger seat and continued holding the gun on him.

After robbing him, the man and woman started to argue, with her saying, “That’s not him!” This has led police to believe that the robbery was likely a case of mistaken identity. As the two continued to argue near the intersection of Klump Avenue and Cumpston Street, the victim said he jumped out of the moving vehicle – grabbing his wallet first – and as he did, he heard a gunshot as he was running away.

The victim did not recover his cell phone or IPod and as a result it took him some time to make his way to the North Hollywood Police Station and report the incident. LAPD officers responded to the corner of Klump and Cumpston and multiple neighbors reported hearing a loud popping sound that could have been a gunshot. No witnesses reported seeing the kidnapping at Magnolia and Lankershim.

“We found no evidence at the scene, so if a shot was fired, the casing probably landed inside the car,” Kammert said.
