L.A. Family Housing's Palo Verde Apartments Honored With Los Angeles Architectural Award
The project provides supportive housing to 60 formerly homeless adults who live with mental illness.

LA Family Housing’s Palo Verde apartments was honored with a prestigious LA Architectural Award from the Los Angeles Business Council today at a celebration that drew hundreds of the region’s leading architects, designers and building professionals.

Nearly 30 world-class projects from across the architectural spectrum were recognized for design excellence and community impact at the event. More than 500 professionals gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the event, keynoted by Los Angeles County Museum of Art Director Michael Govan, the bold leader behind LACMA’s recent evolution. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was also among the event’s featured speakers, acknowledging the outstanding projects that make LA livable, beautiful and economically vibrant.
The Palo Verde is an architecturally beautiful, environmentally sustainable apartment community that provides supportive housing to 60 formerly homeless adults who live with mental illness. Designed by Gonzalez Goodale Architects, Palo Verde is owned and operated by LA Family Housing, a local non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in people’s lives.

“We congratulate all the winners of the LA Architectural Awards, which celebrate the very best in forward-thinking design that enhances economic vitality and quality of life throughout Los Angeles County,” said Los Angeles Business Council President Mary Leslie.
A distinguished jury of owners, contractors, architects and civic leaders selected this year’s outstanding winners from hundreds of submissions. The Grand Prize went to LACMA Transformation Phase II: Resnick Pavilion, Ray’s Restaurant and Stark Bar. The Community Impact Award honored Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza; Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; and Westfield Culver City. Palo Verde received the LA Business Council’s Chairman’s Award for Transformative Projects.
For 42 years, the LABC has hosted this awards luncheon to honor design teams for both their aesthetic vision and for their contributions to the community as a whole.
