L.A. Family Housing Celebrates Autumn
Parents and kids who faced homelessness enjoy an afternoon carnival at their temporary home in North Hollywood.

The North Hollywood branch of L.A. Family Housing celebrated autumn with its annual Harvest Festival Sunday.
The 60 families of the Sydney M. Irmas Transitional Living Center that could have faced homelessness enjoyed food, games and other fun activities throughout the day.
For the past 16 years, the complex has temporarily housed families that have been down on their luck and prepped them move back out on their own again with counseling, help with financial literacy and other programs.

"These past few years, we've had a tremendous increase in first time homelessness," said LA Family Housing CEO Stephanie Klasky-Gamer.
Monica Fandy has lived at the transitional center since April with her five children. She recently moved back to California after spending the last decade in Texas and says she is getting back on her feet.

While the programs have helped, Fandy says she's also appreciative of events like the Harvest Festival that let kids like hers have a day of fun.
"It's priceless, absolutely priceless," she said.
Partners Trust and the Ant Farm helped sponsor the event.
