Police Saturation Patrols in NoHo Arts District Helping Reduce Crime

Crime has fallen dramatically in the NoHo Arts District this year.

Back in March, the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Sheriff's Department began a three-month program to increase their presence in the NoHo Arts District near the MTA's Red Line and Orange Line stations, and the program seems to have had a big impact on the number of reported crimes.

To date in 2012, violent crime reports are down 18.5 percent and property crime reports are down 8.5 percent, according to . Reports of "part 1" crimes, which includes homicide, rape, robbery, assaults, and theft, are down 9.6 percent. These numbers also mirror a reported drop in violent and property crime throughout all of the LAPD North Hollywood Division's patrol area:

The saturation by the departments near the Red Line was in response to an increase of criminals arrested near the North Hollywood Metro Red Line Station in the NoHo Arts District who are not from the San Fernando Valley and are trying to use the subway as a quick getaway.

"This is a problem location for us," told Patch in April. "We have partnered with our friends from the (Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department) to increase our presence in this area, to make sure that those who would come to North Hollywood or use the Red Line for any type of criminal activity, this is not the pace to go."
