Prop 29 Still Alive? (And Can Dewey Still Defeat Truman?)

The prop is losing by 53,000 votes with an estimated 830,000 still left to be counted.

North Hollywood-Toluca Lake Patch via City News Service that Prop 29 had been shot down by California voters, but now the L.A. Times is reporting the the voting may not be over yet.

The measure is reported to be losing by 53,000 votes, and the the secretary of state's office released a partial estimate of the number of uncounted ballots as of Thursday was 830,000.

Prop 29 if approved would add an additional $1 tax to each pack of cigarettes sold in California, bringing the total per-pack tax to $1.87. The $1 increase is estimated to generate more than $700 million annually, with most of the revenue going toward cancer research.
