VIDEO: Explore the Tujunga Wash Greenway and Stream Restoration Project

The project has transformed the once lifeless looking concrete wash into a lush area full of plants and wildlife — all right in the middle of the San Fernando Valley.

The attached YouTube video explores and was posted recently by WebTours, a free public service "intended to promote both the recreational and educational opportunities available in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA), the largest urban national park in America."

The Tujunga Wash project has transformed the once lifeless looking concrete wash into a lush area full of plants and wildlife — all right in the middle of the San Fernando Valley. From County Supervisor,Third District, Zev Yaroslovsky's website: "The barren concrete channel has been transformed. Native plants and trees are thriving. Water that once flowed into a flood control channel has now been diverted into a meandering stream that feeds an aquifer and supplies drinking water. Walking paths and bike trails line the restored wash between Vanowen and Oxnard streets in the Valley. This $7-million project—a blend of conservation and recreation—is a model for revitalization efforts all along the L.A. River."
