12-Mile Clean In 2 Hours: Volunteers Pick Up Trash For Earth Day

Volunteers will pick up trash from over 12 miles of Devonshire Street on Saturday to celebrate Earth Day.

CHATSWORTH, CA — Volunteers on Saturday will attempt to clean 12 miles of Devonshire Street in just two hours ahead of Earth Day.

The special clean-up event is hosted by Chatsworth-based nonprofit Volunteers Cleaning Communities, which organizes volunteers throughout the year to pick up trash on local streets and freeway on- and off-ramps. The event is an early celebration of Earth Day, which is on Thursday.

From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, volunteers will be assigned to a 1/2 mile stretch of Devonshire Street from Topanga Canyon Blvd to Arleta Park to pick up trash with grabbers and bags. The difficult work will be followed with a free ice cream social, complete with live music, food trucks, and face paining, and volunteers will be given souvenir T-Shirts for their efforts.
