Back-To-Back Break-Ins Stoke Fear In LA Residents Still Shaken By Double Murder
Several homes — including a "Real Housewives" star's — were broken into Monday, hours after a meeting about last week's double murder.
ENCINO, CA — Just hours after residents met with authorities Monday to discuss safety concerns after the murder of their neighbors, two new home break-ins occurred within minutes of each other — including one at the home of a former "Real Housewives" star.
One burglary was reported at around 10:15 p.m. on the 4500 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue by a resident who told police their neighbor's home was burglarized and the suspects, two men in black hoodies, had come to the caller's own property. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had fled in a black BMW, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Teddi Mellencamp — the daughter of singer- songwriter John Mellencamp and a cast member of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" — wrote on Instagram that her home was one of the residences targeted by burglars Monday night.

"We are grateful that everyone is unharmed," Mellencamp wrote. "While we are shaken, we are fortunate to have the latest in home security systems which scared off the intruders. Authorities were alerted and swiftly responded. We appreciate everyone's heightened concern in light of recent criminal activities in our area, but we are safe."
Mellencamp told ABC News that she shares the home with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, and they were home with their children when the attempted break-in occurred. Mellencamp posted security video on Instagram showing three intruders entering the property.

At around the same time, officers responded to another home less than two miles away on the 4900 block of Enfield Avenue. The caller told police multiple people were caught on surveillance inside a home, but a search of the property turned up nothing, police said.
The break-ins came just hours after some 200 residents packed into the Encino Community Center to sound off about crime in the area, including the home-invasion killing of "American Idol" music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca.
Raymond Boodarian, 22, of Encino has been charged with two counts of murder in their deaths.
The victims' bodies were found at about 2:30 p.m. July 14 in the 4700 block of White Oak Place, south of Ventura Boulevard, during a welfare check prompted by a call from an acquaintance who had not heard from the couple in several days, according to the LAPD. The victims were found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.
"In a matter of moments, this couple was senselessly killed in their own home as they returned from the grocery store," District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement shortly after the charges were filed. "This tragic shooting has shaken a Valley community and the notion that home should be our safe sanctuary. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends who are grieving this tremendous loss."
The couple were killed with their own gun, Hochman said at Monday's meeting.
"We're having phenomenal numbers on crime reduction. That being said when two wonderful people end up dead in their own home, those crime statistics fall kind of flat," LAPD Deputy Chief Marla Ciuffetelli told attendees, ABC 7 reported.
LAPD officials said they would increase patrols, especially between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., and increase helicopter flyovers in light of the killings, NBC Los Angeles reported.
There were at least 10 burglaries in July 2024 across the San Fernando Valley, the majority of which were in Encino, ABC 7 reported.
