"I turned Tommy out and after his workout and we played and I petted him lovingly... and then I decided I wanted to get on him and walk around... no saddle or bridle. The second I got on he ran like he was shot out of a rodeo chute bucking like a bareback bronc. I was thrown over his head and landed very hard on my back. I was taken by ambulance to the ER. I have 3 fractures in my pelvis and sacrum area."

The incident was reported at 5 p.m. at 11798 W. Foothill Blvd., near Hansen Dam Aquatic Center, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The horse was in water, with about half of its body covered, with three legs stuck in sand or mud, Scott said.
A helicopter hoist operation was anticipated, with 35 firefighters working from ground and air to rescue the animal, Scott said.
About 10 firefighters worked to keep the horse's head above water during the rescue operation, and a specialized team was expected to tranquilize the horse while firefighters brought it to safety.
