Chatsworth Drowning Victim Identified

Authorities believe a 54-year-old man who drowned in a Chatsworth pool died while going for a swim.

CHATSWORTH, CA —Authorities Tuesday identified a man who drowned in a backyard swimming pool in Chatsworth.

Firefighters were called about 8:15 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the 20400 block of Lassen Street.

Gregory Apperson, 54, died at the scene, the coroner's office reported. His home town was not known.

"He was found by a relative who was unable to rescue him," said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. "The captain dove in and pulled him to the surface."

Apperson was in swimming attire, indicating he intended to be in the pool and did not fall in, Humphrey said.
