A 42-year-old Chatsworth man was sentenced this week to six years in jail after being found guilty for falsely claiming ownership of an apartment complex in Oxnard and trying to collect rent from tenants, according to the Ventura County Star.
In 2011, Laureano Labasay recorded a false transfer of title for a 32-unit apartment building and filed it with the County Clerk's Recorder Office.
After his first arrest and release on bail, he falsely filed two more documents with the same office asserting ownership, the Star reports.
Labasay was found guilty in September.
