Councilman Englander Rides Tall in the Saddle With Chatsworth's Corral 54

It was a big weekend for politicians spending the day on the trail.

Editor's Note: It was a big weekend for politicians on horseback. In Chatsworth, Councilman Mitch Englander rode the rugged countryside with members of ETI Corral 54 on Saturday. County Supervisor Michael Antonovich took to  the trails in Sylmar on Sunday for his annual "Trail Dusters Ride." Here's Patch reader Charlotte Brodie's report on Englander's day, accompanied by Steve Ford's photos.

May 19 turned out to be a beautiful day for our group of 20 riders enjoying the sunshine and flowers in the Chatsworth hills. Councilman Mitch Englander, his wife Jayne and Megan Cottier, his district director, enjoyed their morning in the saddle meandering through the “countryside.” We rode around the Chatsworth Trails Park hill and then went up into Deerlake Highlands and around "wildflower hill" before heading back down and through the little rock wall to Saugus Road. It's always a relief for me when I "bring the councilman back alive and well."

Hopefully, everyone got a chance to ask the councilman any questions they had for him.

After the ride we enjoyed rolled sandwiches, fresh fruit, cookies and drinks and presented the councilman with a Tenderfoot Badge and a cowboy hat filled with goodies (Corral T-shirt & DVD, and several items to help with aches & pains from the ride).

I’d like to thank the entire crew that helped me put this ride together, Cindy Strauss for getting the refreshments, Diane and Larry Brewer for setting up and serving them, Mary Kaufman for providing her horse Raven for the councilman, Lisa Ybarra for providing her horse Chili for Jayne, Ride On and Sara for providing a horse for Megan and getting her safely to and from the ride, Marilyn Ruzicka for riding drag, Susan Eskander for helping with the releases, and Steve Ford and Carol Lucas for taking pictures.
