Galatzan Seeks Support for Law to Fire Teachers Who Exploit Children

This year, I introduced “Protecting Children in the Classroom,” which passed unanimously, asking our State legislators to change the law so that certificated employees engaged in acts that are unprofessional, immoral, or criminal can be dismissed faster and at less cost to the district.

State Senator Alex Padilla took up the cause, and Senate Bill 1530 aims to expedite the dismissal process.

SB 1530 passed the Senate Education Committee unanimously and is scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly Education Committee on Wednesday, June 27. The California Teachers Association (CTA) is rallying people to oppose the bill.
