Islamic Center Congregants Vote in a New Board of Directors

Two-year battle for control ends with a court-ordered election.

And so it comes down to this. The old order has been ousted by Muslim congregants who voted overwhelmingly for new leaders in a court-ordered election at the .

There were 1,014 votes cast during Sunday's election.

The Daily News reports that: "current board president Mobeen Awan earned 2 votes, while his opponent Dr. Shaik Saheb, an orthopedic surgeon, garnered 1,004. Current board secretary Tariq Khan garnered 2 votes, while Manzar Qureshi won 1,002. Treasurer Mohammad Hanif won 5 votes, while his opponent Muhammad Abdul Hye received 992.

"Director of Operations Hussen Sidky received 5 votes, while Syed Adnan Kazi won 997. And Fahim Hassankhail, the present director of education, earned 5 votes while his opponent Reza Jalala, earned 1,001."
