'Kiss-In' Demonstrators Plan to Kiss Off Northridge Chick-fil-A Restaurant

Things were quiet when Patch stopped by the on same-sex "Kiss-In" Friday, following Wednesday's outpouring of residents demonstrating opposition to same-sex marriage. 

The usual long line of cars were queued at the drive-thru window during late afternoon. A polo-shirted greeter manned the front door of the restaurant at 8875 Tampa Ave. And few spaces were left in the parking lot.

A KNBC4 reporter was interviewing a single individual. A self-styled preacher was waving a Bible on Tampa Avenue. And an LAPD officer in summer shorts and a short-sleeve uniform shirt parked his patrol car in the shade and walked around the survey the scene.

Chick-fil-A has been mired in controversy in recent days as a result of comments made by Dan Cathy, the company's Georgia-based owner, who has spoken out against same-sex unions.

But in Torrance, the situation was a bit different.

Vandals plastered graffiti on an exterior wall at a Chick-fil-A restaurant at 18200 Hawthorne Blvd., said Torrance police Lt. Martin Vukotic.

Someone painted "Tastes like hate" with a picture of a cow next to it on the front exterior wall of the restaurant. There are no known suspects, Vukotic said.

Torrance police will be monitoring all of the Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Torrance, according to Vukotic.

"We have extra patrol for all three of our locations in our city," he said.

A national "kiss-in" was planned Friday at Chick-fil-A restaurant locations, according to organizers. It envisions gay rights supporters showing up at the restaurants and kissing a demonstrator of the same sex.
