Man Fires Assault Rifle At Woman, Stabs Her During Valley Mall Child-Custody Dispute: LAPD

The man opened fire on the woman before stabbing her, police said.

CANOGA PARK, CA — A man was arrested Thursday after he opened fire at a woman using an assault rifle before stabbing her at the Westfield Topanga Mall.

Police responded at around 12:25 p.m. to reports of a shooting and/or stabbing near the Cheesecake Factory at the Topanga Canyon Boulevard mall, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A man with an AR-15 fired shots at a woman who was with her child, but missed. He then stabbed her, ABC 7 reported.

The child was not harmed.

Police described the incident as stemming from a child custody issue, but did not specify the relationship between the two adults and child.

The woman was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, according to ABC 7.
