Man Shoots Stranger Who Was Pumping Gas At Chatsworth Gas Station: DA

A 32-year-old is facing an attempted murder after randomly shooting a man who was pumping gas this week, prosecutors said.

CHATSWORTH, CA — A 32-year-old man faces attempted murder charges after he randomly shot a man while he was pumping gas at a Chatsworth gas station this week, according to the district attorney's office.

Joshua Steven Morales is accused of shooting the man, who he did not know, with a pellet gun in the back of the head while the man was pumping gas at a Speedway station Tuesday at around 6:30 a.m., the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, prosecutors said.

Morales faces one count of attempted murder. Prosecutors are recommending that he be held on $1.045 million bail.

If he's convicted as charged, Morales faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

“Our thoughts are with the victim and his family following this senseless and tragic incident,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “No one should ever have to worry about being randomly attacked while simply going about their daily lives. This cowardly act of violence is shocking and unacceptable. Our office is committed to working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served for the victim and his loved ones.”
