A private firm has helped rehab a duplex to serve as a model and fundraising tool for the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission's new family homeless center project in Northridge.
The nonprofit, which already operates a 30-bed emergency center in North Hollywood, acquired a former school at 8740 Canby Ave. and is working to convert it to a space with 90 beds, common dining room and case management offices.
Upon receiving a request for assistance, homebuilding company KB Home stepped up to the plate and volunteered resources and 1,000 man hours to rehab a four-bedroom model home aimed at helping San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission to draw donations to fund the completion of its latest project.
“The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission is more than just a shelter. The organization gives families hope and empowers them by providing the opportunities they need to get back on track and rebuild their lives,” said Tom DiPrima, executive vice president of KB Home's Southern California division. “When KB Home was presented the opportunity to help these families we saw it as a blessing and we look forward to further strengthening this important partnership in the future.”
