One Killed In Los Angeles Plane Crash

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A pilot of a small plane died Sunday afternoon after crashing near a Los Angeles freeway. The plane crash was reported at 2:17 p.m. near Interstate 5 and Roxford Street in Sylmar, according to the California Highway Patrol incident log.

A spokesman with the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that the man who flew alone died. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The plane was registered to a Marina del Rey resident, according to emergency transmissions from the scene. Authorities have not yet confirmed that information.

The crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Last Sunday, five people were killed when a twin-engine Cessna 414 crashed into a parking lot in Santa Ana.

A SigAlert was issued for northbound 5 and 405 freeways.
