Police Abandon Verdugo Mountains Hunt for Missing FBI Agent

It has been a frustrating and fruitless search through the Verdugo Mountains for an armed from his home two weeks ago, so authorities have stopped looking there, the Burbank Leader reports.

The decision was announced Wednesday after search teams from the Ventura and Los Angeles County sheriff’s departments returned empty-handed Saturday, Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn told the paper.

Since his May 11 disappearance, the hunt for 35-year-old FBI agent Stephen Ivens involved helicopters, dogs and foot patrols.

Ivens is a specialist in national security.

The search took on added urgency because officials said he likely had his department-issued gun and could be a danger to himself, although they declined to say why, the Leader reported.
