Relay for Life Takes Steps to Fund a Cancer Cure

More than 400 signed up on the Internet to participate in the 24-hour walk-a-thon.

With every step, with every lap, with every mile walked around the quad at Chatsworth High School Saturday, the American Cancer Society may be closer to a cure.

More than 400 walkers signed up on the Internet, according to Rana Ghadban of the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce. And more were expected to participate in the by the time the 24-hour walk-a-thon ended at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

The sun was baking, but the walkers were protected by the shadow of a roof covering their path. There was plenty to eat, from the burgers broiled by the Chatsworth Kiwanis, to the cupcake booth, to the snack table with fruit and drinks.
