LOS ANGELES, CA — Police in Los Angeles released video Tuesday of a high-speed stolen Lamborghini chase that ended with a crash that killed the driver and reduced the Lamborghini to twisted debris.

The crash happened in the San Fernando Valley early on April 6 following a high-speed chase that reached 113 miles per hour, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. It ended with the death of a 51-year-old Los Angeles man whose body was found hundreds of feet from the wreckage after he was ejected by the impact of the crash.

The chase started when officers pulled up alongside a Lamborghini Huracan at a red light on Sherman Way and Reseda Boulevard, the video shows. It was about 5 a.m., and the driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel. They officers pulled the driver over after the Lamborghini continued to idle for a long delay when the light turned green.

A few blocks later the driver, Elliott Dugan, pulled over and initially cooperated with the officers. However, when they ran the Lamborghini's information, they discovered it was reported stolen, and that Dugan had multiple arrest warrants. That's when he took off, speeding west on Sherman Way in excess of 100 mph.

Within just a few blocks, he struck the center median knocking over several trees, an impact so explosive, the Lamborghini was shredded. Dugan died at the scene.

The pursuing officers arrived seconds later, navigating the debris field of fallen trees and wreckage.

"Where is he?" one of the officers asks.

"I can't tell inside this mess," says the other.

According to LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz, the collision caused the Lamborghini to be split into two main sections.

"The ensuing debris from the Collision also caused damage to multiple vehicles that were parked along Sherman Way," she said.

According to Muniz, the crash remains under investigation while the department determines if the pursuing officers followed protocol.

"In the next several months the LAPD will continue to investigate and analyze this incident," she said. "We will continue interviewing any new witnesses who may come forward and complete any forensic tests."
