1 Arrested For Child Endangerment, 3 For DUI At Checkpoint In Marin County: Police

Of the 345 drivers police screened at a checkpoint, 23 were evaluated at a secondary area to see if they were safe to continue driving.

NOVATO, CA β€” At a DUI checkpoint Friday in Novato, three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, including one who was also arrested for child endangerment, and one driver with a suspended license for DUI was arrested for a hit-and-run warrant, police said

At the DUI checkpoint on Friday at the intersection of South Novato Boulevard and Sunset Parkway, Novato Police Department officers said they screened 345 drivers. Of those drivers, 23 were directed to the secondary screening area to check if they were safe to continue driving.

In total, nine drivers without licenses were issued citations, three drivers were arrested for DUI, including an additional charge of child endagerment for a driver, one driver was arrested for a hit-and-run warrant and one driver with a suspended license was issued a citation, police said.

"We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all the lawful and safe drivers who briefly spoke to us during the checkpoint. DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off our roads," police said.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the NHTSA National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
