Downtown Novato Liquor Store Damaged In Large Morning Fire

Firefighters knocked down flames at a single-story convenience store on Grant Avenue shortly after 8 a.m.

NOVATO, CA — Firefighters responded early Sunday morning to a large structure fire at a liquor convenience store in downtown Novato, authorities said.

Crews were dispatched around 8 a.m. to the Old Town Liquor shop at 878 Grant Ave., where they found the single-story store heavily involved in flames visibly raging out of the front windows of the building, according to the Novato Fire Protection District.

Firefighters quickly pulled hose lines, forced entry and began efforts to quell the flames, fire officials said.

The first arriving engine supplied water to the scene, while a ladder truck was used to access the roof for vertical ventilation. Officials said the coordination helped remove heat and smoke, improving inside conditions and allowing crews to advance safely into the building.

Officials said they were able to prevent the blaze from extending into the attic or spreading to nearby buildings.
