$200K Available To Marin Orgs Aimed At Getting People Outdoors

The County of Marin will award grants to qualifying nonprofits trying to connect communities to parks.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The County of Marin will award up to $200,000 to community-based organizations in an effort to better connect residents to parks.

The Breathe Community Grant Program will award a maximum of $10,000 to each local community organization that qualifies.

Since 2014, the grant program has aimed to provide thousands of residents with wellness programs, other community services in local parks, facilitated more visits to parks and introduced new residents to outdoor recreation.

Currently, they have awarded the grant to several organizations including: Marin City Swim, which is providing swim lessons for children in Marin City; to Opening the World and Youth Transforming Justice, which is offering outings for youth involved with the juvenile justice system; and to the Marin Foster Care Association, which is leading outings for unaccompanied migrant youth.

Local community organizers are invited to fill out an applications by May 9 for the competitive grants. Grants will be recommended in July and they will be announced in August following approval by the Board of Supervisors.

Marin will consider funding projects or programs that support an underserved community.

Financing for this grant is provided as part of Measure A, which funds wildfire safety, sea level rise adaptation, road and trail management, equitable access to public lands, and park maintenance in Marin County.
