Novato Blaze Explodes To 114 Acres (Updated)

Updated at 6:04 p.m.: The blaze in the area of Redwood Sanitary Landfill has exploded to 114 acres and is 40 percent contained, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said in a 5:51 p.m. alert. The fire was 40 percent contained. No evacuation orders have been issued and there is no threat to the public or public property.

NOVATO, CA — A 5-acre blaze in Novato near Highway 101 has triggered traffic delays, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Novato Fire District issued an alert at 4:46 p.m. urging residents to avoid the area of the Redwood Sanitary Landfill.

The blaze the is causing heavy traffic delays in the area, the CHP said.

Motorists are urged to use an alternate route if possible.
