Andy Gates Homers As Novato Tops Redwood, 5-4

The Hornets (10-4, 6-2 MCAL) have won four of their last six games.

NOVATO, CA — Andy Gates homered and drove in three runs, Evan Black scored two runs without getting a hit, and Novato exacted a measure of revenge against Redwood with a 5-4 Marin County Athletic League win on Friday.

Derek Bartram pitched 4 2/3 innings of three-hit ball for the win and Jacob Rabb pitched the final 2 1/3 innings of no-hit ball for the save.

The Hornets (10-4, 6-2 MCAL) have won four of their last six games.

Bartram struck out two, walked one and gave up three runs (one earned), and Rabb struck out two, walked one and gave up one unearned run.

Rabb had two hits and one RBI and Nathan Dito had one hit and drove in one.

Black reached on three walks in four plate appearances.

The victory followed an 8-6 MCAL loss to Giants of Larkspur (11-4, 8-2) two days earlier in which Gates was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI and Bartram had two hits and two RBI.

Gates has hit safely in 11 of 13 games and has 11 RBI over his last five games.

The Hornets were scheduled to play at Piner of Santa Rosa in an nonleague game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
