CONCORD, CA — Police in Concord discovered a suspect dead in his residence Sunday following an investigation into a possible assault with a firearm earlier in the day, police said.

An area on Ward Way was put on lockdown Sunday afternoon as officers investigated a report of an assault with a firearm that happened that morning in the city of Concord at about 10:44 a.m.

Police investigated and found that no one was injured during the morning incident, the department said, but the suspect fled the scene and returned to his home in the 2600 block of Ward Way.
Officers responded to that location and confirmed the suspect was inside the residence. According to police, multiple attempts were made to establish communication with him, including phone calls, text messages, and amplified announcements made from patrol vehicle speakers, but the suspect did not respond.
