Beloved K9 Dies In Novato, Police Announce

Koa passed away peacefully at the age of 13 in the comfort of his former handler, police said.

NOVATO, CA — The Police Department mourned the loss of a retired police K9 Tuesday in Novato.

Koa, who served alongside his handler, Sgt. Sean Sinnott from December 2014 until his retirement in November 2019, was a dedicated police K9, police said.

Koa cherished his time with fellow officers and the community, eagerly anticipating work each day.

He thoroughly enjoyed his extended retirement, transitioning fully into a beloved family pet.

Koa, at the age of 13, peacefully passed away on Tuesday in the care of his former handler.

"He will be sorely missed by his family, NPD family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him," police said.
